Gauge 12-56. I saw them at a music store and a guy said they couldn't be tuned higher than D tuning DGCFAD. They must be used for really hardcore metal or something.

Dude I got these strings the other day that couldn't be tuned to higher than 4 octaves below middle C then I realized that they were shoelaces and they weren't making any sound at all.

yeah what the guy meant is that you cant do much bends and stuff like that if you tuned to E with that high of a guage cause it would break.
#10
i got some of those bad boys a week back and have been using them for c standard tuning, sounds better than ever before too! just today i tuned up to half step down and admittedley they were a bit tight but perfectly playable, still best suited for those dropped songs

I just started using the Heavy Bottoms on my Les Paul for Drop Db and Hybrid Slinkies for my Tele on the same tunning. I do admit that the .10-.52's are a bit too tight for my liking, but the hybrids were too loose on the les paul.

I do the 10-52 on my C7hellraiser, with an added ''64 string as low B. And indeed, the EAD strings are JUST too tight to be really good.

Going with a custom set of 10-16 and then 28-49 and 60 on top next time I change. Should be fun

used those strings before, and they go in standard tuning quite easilly, seriously, that guy's full of crap

you know you can get zakk wilde custom strings that are form 14-60 (i think~).
and roto blues have quite a thick gauge on the lower strings. i use them and tune to D standard cos it make ths higher strings really lose.

12s? Pssh, pathetic.
I know someone who uses 13s in standard. Granted he plays jazz so not much bending.
#26
Stevie Ray Vaughan used 12s and 13s in Eb Standard, and don't forget he plays Blues so there is a lot of bending.

That's because you weren't using magnetic shoelaces, duh.

i use 12-52 and they do most tunings easy and its not that hard to bend at all. He was talking crap.

UG Mods really have no sense of humour.....

It's not that you can't tune them to E-Standard. But it is recommended not to cause of the amount of stress it will put on the neck.

If you have one of the thin necked guitars and put such heavy strings on them and crank them up to E, you are going to run in some neck warping issues.

Even on thick necked guitars it will put a lot of stress on the neck.

i use .11s on my guitar. i don't think .12 would make much of a difference. .11's are fine for bending (for me?)
