DOes anyone have an opinion on the peavey valve kings clean channel

ive not had chance to play through one but im looking to use it just for cleans and my 6505 fro drive

before you say anything i have two cabs and a flightcase with two head slots in

and a big van to cart all my gear around

id be running the reverb from the amp and a chrous

The Valveking cleans are meh at best, the reverb is pretty bad as well, the more reverb you use the more buzz you get from the amp.

Some people say the valveking cleans aren't that great. I thought they were one of the best things about that amp. The only thing is that they aren't good if you don't have the bright switch on. The tube swap also helped a bit.

you could get the valveking and do a speaker swap and still be under your budget. i put a texas heat in mine and it's got some pretty nice cleans now.

He wants the HEAD not the combo so he will not be chaging the speaker. Does nobody read?

I have only played VKs a few times, but I found the clean channel useable, but by no means amazing. What types of music are you going to be playing? I am assuming some pretty heavy sh*t since you got a 6505. Plus with a phase, reverb and chorus on there, it should help bring out some character that the amp itself lacks. In all honesty, unless you really like phase, just a reverb and a Small Clone chorus with the depth switch down and the rate low. That should make it relatively usable.

I think most people's dislike of the VK comes from the speaker. The stock speaker is pretty horrific.

So if your getting the head it shouldn't be bad. I swapped the speaker in my 112 to an eminence Man O War and get really nice cleans, even with 81/85's. The bright switch is a big help too.

The Reverb is really bad too, I would get a Holy Grail or swap the tank.

I own the VK100 head and think this amp is awsome. The clean channel in my opinion sounds great with the right cab. Very loud to!

Not heard them, but it's worth checking out the re-issued Sound City amps.
