A lot of you seem to hate the 100 greatest guitarist, and singers list that rolling stones made.
Although I agree with you guys on some of the stuff, it was a descent list.
The next list is on the 100 greatest guitar songs.

Now before you start raving that the staff of rolling stones is a douche for making a crappy list, here's the fact.
This list was made by 200 different musicians calling out 20 of their favorite songs and the ones that had the most votes were on the list.
It's more valid than a staff vote or a reader vote because it was essentially chosen by the real pros.

100 Tool - "Vicarious"

03 Cream - "Crossroads"
02 Jimi Hendrix - "Purple Haze"
01 Chuck Berry - "Johnny B. Goode

Honestly, can't really disagree on the first 20, besides I think Purple Haze and Johnny B Goode should switch, number 12s voodoo child should be all along the watch tower, Layla should switch with brown sugar, and I don't know what my generation is doing there...
But can't agree enough with Crossroads, You Really Got Me, Eruption, Stairway, Statesboro Blues, and Smells like Teen Spirit.
They all brought something new to guitar or simply was just an amazing song.
Also it's missing Sunshine of Your Love and Comfortably Numb.
Still a good list, better than the other lists that rolling stones did.

I think it's an amazing list.

Edit: Nah I'm lying, these lists are always absolute tripe.

purple haze = jimi's worst song
eruption = a bad evh solo and not a song (evh is amazing to me btw)
stairway to heaven = not led zep's best song.

No it isn't a song, ur right, but it proved what evh can do with the guitar and it defined how many of the heavy metal and hard rock was played after this.

Stairway isn't their best song, I'm a fan but I like Song Remains the Same better as a guitar song, but it had a solo good enough to blow the universe away.

like always the order is very debatable but overall it seems like a good list

i don't think "johnny b. goode" and "purple haze" should switch. chuck berry influenced so many of those songs on the list. if it wasn't for that song, i don't even think hendrix would have been on the list at all.

the list could have used some MC5.

I hate Rolling Stone.

I hate it even more when they make crappy lists like these. They should stick to whatever mainstream tripe that they specialize in.

Nirvana shouldn't be on the list. Im sorry, but Cobain was a ****ty guitar player. Also, I personally think "All Along the Watchtower" and "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" should be higher up than "Purple Haze". And what about the Stones' "Gimmie Shelter"? I dont know, these lists are pretty silly to me.
#11
It's a bit shit, as these lists tend to be.

Sultans of Swing should be higher is about all I can be bothered to say really.

These votes always stay the same. I swear to God, MTV had their countdown of the top 10 rock riffs and they were: Enter Sandman, Stairway, Purple Haze and Smells Like...

Rename it '100 Songs A Bar Cover-band Should Play' and I'd agree.

How did I know that Rolling Stone would put Nirvana in the top 10...oh wait...tats because of their love fest with them. If you are going to put Smells Like Teen Spirit in the top 10, how about putting the song which has the original riff from that song: More Than A feeling by Boston?

Please don't ruin this thread. Transvestitism is serious business.

I'd say the list is a good start for other beginning guitairists to look up on. Seeing that it has a lot of different ideas with playing guitar.
I like how it's broad and covers a range of styles
Damn though with Nirvana, they should have put "Drain you" on that list

I can understand why some of them are up there but I don't really agree with it at all. Especially Purple Haze, no reason for that to be number 2. I also don't see what's so special about Santana's cover of Black Magic Woman, and I prefer Fleetwood Mac's version.
#25
metal and classic rock centric again.

Can we have a list with something else on it sometimes please listmakers?

not that bad

I think those are all good songs.... its just that the order is messed up.

Born to Run??? How is that in the beginning? It doesnt have that great guitar in it. When I think of it I think of it more for its sax solo not guitar....

Hey, Maggot Brain is on there. Thats something somewhat redeeming.

Nirvana shouldn't be anywhere on the list...

...and what defines this?

Plus, who IS Buckethead anyway? where did he come from? The only reason i know of him because some friend of mine saw him on Guitar Hero and he could play "brootalzzz shreddorz!11!"

Aside from being the most exciting guitar talent since Joe Satriani, he's nothing much.

Talent as in being able to press strings down against wood at an extremely fast pace?
#37
No Black Star or Far Beyond the Sun? Come on, those songs had an immeasurable influence on just about every metal guitarist of the mid to late 80s, not to mention the fact that they just rock.

He's pretty varied in what genres he can play.

Funk, jam, metal, he's pretty good at all of those.
