I can't sing. Makes no difference whether I'm playing a guitar, not playing a guitar or playing a saxophone

Depends entirely on the song. For most of the songs I've attempted it at, yes. Others I find really confusing, like the chorus for Gears Of War.
#7
Depends if its just chords, or like a complex riff. Yes for the former, no for the latter.

it's the only reason why I play guitar... other wise, I think, what's the point.

Oh yes... whatever is the point of playing guitar without singing...

well, i cant sing very well at all, but i try.

depending on the song i can. Simple strumming isnt that hard when the vocal melody isnt that complicated (ex wonderwall, hit me baby one more time [dont flame, it has a wicked chord progression], wild thing, high and dry, etc), but offbeat reggae/ska songs or some mad riffage will ALWAYS throw me off

yeah for some stuff, you've just got to know it inside out guitar wise then put the vocals over the top
some things are easier than others though
chords and fingerpicked stuff i can do ok and some more lead based guitar parts (like the chorus of 'rose of sharyn' by KSE) are fine
its just a question of knowing the parts well enough (well for me anyway)
some stuffs dead hard though especially if its got a tricky picking pattern that you dont quite know
i think its just like a rub your tummy pat your head type thing of co-ordination
#27
Yeah, actually i sing better when im playing guitar at the same time
my two favorite songs to play and sing are
Remedy by Seether and
Fake it also by seether
i sing and play lead for my post-grunge/metal band untill we can find a singer(or if)

My advice is to just let loose, and don't worry too much about it and over time, you'll improve.

Matt Bellamy once said he can only play those complex guitar/vocal bits because he "just went for it" during practice. If he can hit those high notes by just going for it...

EDIT: No, reading back over that, that is probably the dumbest advice I've ever given. Just practice and don't strain your vocal chords, and get singing lessons.

I used to. I could sing to otherside, and it'd improve my singing a lot since I had the tone playing in my ear and the rhythm.

i don't particularly want to/need to so i haven't tried. but seeing as i can't even speak legibly when playing, i doubt i'll be able to sing.
(i know theres a difference, having learned the words, rhythm beforehand)
DONT RISK IT, BUY A BASS AMP

yes I can, but my voice sucks a lot.. there are some illustrative examples in my profile.. ha

I can, but it sounds like turd.

Some stuff I can do without thinking about it, but some songs take a lot of practice. I was pretty chuffed when I nailed Tool's 'Stinkfist' scored for one acoustic guitar and vocals. It's just a shame I can't actually sing...
