I wanted to check how old my guitar was today by serial number and all I came across was this.

http://www.guitarnucleus.com/fenderserial.html

It's a MIM and the MIM Strats all have a 3 character code and then 5 digits as a serial code but mine has 3 characters and 6 digits.
The last digit on my headstock is a bit larger than the other and seems a bit misplaced.
It's a Special Edition Strat that I got used a couple of months ago. It belonged to my guitar teacher and he says that it's about 10-12 years old but the guy that he bought it from new says that it's 7 years old.

edit: I think I just found it out myself, it's a 2001.

the first two letters indicate the location and decade of it's build, and the third indicates the year, EI:
MZ1 would be a 2001 mexican
Z2 would be an 02 American
MN3 would be a 93 Mexican.

It's pretty simple after 1977

Mine is MZ1-159832

I was just confused because mine had 6 digits instead of the standard 5.

my serial number is A029071, anyone know what year my fender was made?

is that a japanese model? I think it's a mid-late 90's japanese model.

yeah, but I'm going off of memory, which isn't hard, because once you date one 78-on fender guitar/bass, you know how to handle them all. When you get to the 50's-mid70's and I can date them from memory, that's scary.
