Hello, I need your advice once again

I'm searching for a guitar that suits for blues and a little bit of rock'n'roll, too.

http://www.thomann.de/gb/hagstrom_viking_ii_cbk_lh.htm
http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_dot_lh_cherry_egitarre.htm

Guitar players respect Hagstrom for their great quality and I love the looks and the paintwork but Viking II's basswood body makes me worry - this wood is great for metal (Ibanez models for example), but for blues ? The other choice is Epiphone DOT Cherry which is a legend (ok, it's a Gibson's copy) in rock'n'roll and blues but Epi's get lots of complaints for their poor quality. I don't have much to spend and I'm also a south paw so I don't have a big choice.

I have tried Epiphone's, I like them although pickups should be better. Unfortunately I don't have the possibility to try a Viking II because nobody sells them in Estonia and my friends don't have this model either.

Please tell me about your experience with the Hagstrom Viking II

Best wishes,
Uku

people think you are talking about acoustics, that's why you arent getting hits.

it's a semi-hollow.

i never tried the viking, but the epi dots and casinos are very nice guitars.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

Sorry, I have seen Gibson ES-335 called as a semi-acoustic, I thought that both types are correct for Dot and Viking II (semi-hollow and semi-acoustic).

And I'm talking of the Viking II (different headstock and basswood body) not about the ordinary Viking Just to make sure you tell me about the Viking II

I have seen a lot of good things said about the Dots. Especially the older ones that were made in Korea before they move to China. I also had that chance to play one of the Ibanez semi-hollow bodies at GC and though it felt pretty decent.

dude
epiphone dot
ibanez artcore
do it
In a soundcheck there's never too much guitar. Just not enough of all the other instruments.

i dont think theres any reason to buy a gibson when you can buy an epi that looks the same

Unfortunately there are no Ibanez semi hollow's for left handed players.

EDIT. My bad, there is one model.

So Ibanez Artcore AS73L would be great ?

Still waiting for opinions on the Hagström Viking II

The Viking 2 is the low end model. Cheaper wood, lesser pickups, and no tail piece.

I wouldn't get that, I would save up and buy the Viking Deluxe, which is 2 times the guitar the 2 is, and superior to the Epis. The Artcore is nice, but a totally different guitar as it's thinner and made for a more specific sound, while the deluxe can handle a wide range of sounds.
Main Gear
Hagstrom Select Swede- Fender C600 (modded of course) - Peavey PV8
Main Effects
- DSP2024P - MT-2 - Yamaha CO-10M - MXR Phase 90 - BBE Stinger - Ibanez BCL Bi-Mode Chorus

Thank you for your post. Or should I save some money and go for the Epiphone Sheraton II ? I have read many great things about them here at the forum, that it's much better than the Dot (quality, pups).

So you have the Hagstrom Super Swede? Great guitar, I own a Samick Avion (Les Paul) at the moment but I'm hoping to swap it for a Hagstrom Swede in June or July, depending on the financial situation

It seems I have to wait and save some cash for Viking or Sheraton...

i have the Sheraton ii, i tested the epi Dot before buying it. the sheraton is definately a good choice, better quality compared to the dot, very nice cosmetics. pups are good for a while, but youd definitely want to upgrade in the future.
