On a night like this
You could be sharing words with me
If I hadn't gone and painted the silence
With such an ugly colour scheme

And my shoulders stiffen
As his lips fall to your collar bone
On a night with too many hours
I wished that I were not alone

But you kiss him on the cheek so sweetly
That I could end my life so easily
You lead him by the hand so discreetly
As I continue to stare
From the bottom of the stairs

On a night like this
You could be doing that with me
If I hadn't gone and broken the silence
With my own muffled screams

I swear that you caught me
Trying to pull my eyes away
I know there was a smug smile
On his average looking face

But you kiss him now so passionately
That my head drops unwillingly
The friction making it so, obviously
You're putting on a show
Of what I had and what I let go

What a coward I must be
What a coward I must be
Standing rigid in your bedroom doorway
On the night you turned seventeen
On the night you turned seventeen

Most of this is really lovely and honest and well done. There are a few clumsy-sounding lines though.. I'll come back to this
