Well I was going to get a Mesa Boogie, but I had to pay $200 to get something fixed, but I have recently started looking at a couple of Peavey amps. These are the 3 I've narrowed it down to. Valveking112, Valveking212, Vypyr 60watt tube. Which has the best tones or widest variety of tones. I need one with a high amount of gain, and decent cleans. I really like Petrucci's tone and I know I can't really get the full tone out of these but which would be best to get. I don't gig....at the moment. Thank You.

Vypyr has widest variety, and VK 112 and 212 are identical...except for that extra speaker. Get the VK112 and change out the speaker. You'll be good to go.

The Valveking is good. There's enough gain for metal in general, but heavier stuff you'll need an overdrive pedal. Another difference is that the 212 has a resonance and presence knob where as the 112 doesn't. But the 112 might be better overall with a boost and/or a speaker change.

Yeah I figured to get the full tone I wanted I was going to have to put out another $100 for an overdrive. Any suggestions on that? How is the MXR ZW-44, the Zakk Wylde one.

Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

Sorry, that would be an incorrect statement. Resonance knob vs switch, no presences on the 112. Paralleled speaker jacks and 100w vs 50w

DigiTech Bad Monkey is good for $50.

DigiTech Hardwire overdrive is also good, but more expensive.

So you were GOING to get a mesa boogie and now you are looking at the crapiest amps peavey makes? If you had the cash for the mesa you should be able to get a better peavey amp. xxx, 6505, JSX... They are coming out with a new 3120.

The valveking sucks. Get you an American made peavey amp.
