...or some of them may be just bands that claim to be punk, metal, or otherwise while they are just pop, or pop rock.
By contemporary I mean something from the 90's at the earliest and on.
This is your opinion, if you have a feeling of being offended then don't post anything.

I'll start by saying Busted, that British Pop Rock band that claimed to be Punk, but was just Pop... or was it the other way around? Never mind.
They lasted four years from 2001 to 2004 and released three terrible or mediocre albums without a single descent song.
Kind of disgusting that they represented Pop Punk of that era, when punk rock is all about rebellion, they were simply heavily marketted without a real message.
I want my Black Flag/Sex Pistols days back.

Now your turn, go.

I can tap my foot to most songs regardless of who wrote them with the exception of a shít British band called Travis.

Coldplay.
Enter Shikari.
Madina Lake.
Deftones.

I think Coldplay aren't that bad, but they're just too commercial.

Also forgot to mention McFly, Offspring, Sum 41, and Blink-182.

Enter Shikari make really catchy songs IMO, I dunno why anyone disses them They also made their career start by touring like animals too.

I think most bands start off pretty well, then either sell out, run out of ideas or just get picked on because they change their style. The exception to this is My Chemical Romance, who just shouldn't exist at all.

Except for Deftones are musicians and Fall out Boy is a boy band made up to get famous on Mtv.

^ Pfft, if you can call the Deftones music.
NuMetal was and is awful, and they were among the worst if you ask me. Definitely aptly named.

Slipknot, I'll say. And Limp Bizkit.
Both claimed to be metal, both were just talentless NuMetal hacks.

Yeah, I like the Kaisar Chiefs, White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, and so on.
Indie rock is totally fine, both the British and American sides.
I like their attention to the older genres, like gararge rock, so it's like a revival.

Pop Punk isn't, unfortunately.
The whole point of Punk is the antiestablishment feeling, and Pop IS the establishment of the music industry.
They never should have merged.
Sum 41 should have never dressed like the Sex Pistols, it's almost insulting.
The only descent punk bands were the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash especially, the Stooges, Velvet Under Ground, and don't forget Black Flag.
#24
^ there were tons of great punk bands in the late 70s and 80s. husker du, the replacements, wire, and buzzcocks come to mind.

all modern punk, pop punk, and emo is terrible and should not exist. punk is dead.

also, 99% of people who think indie sucks have absolutely no idea what indie actually is.

EDIT: early emo bands like Rites of Spring don't suck

jonas brothers, you can watch their whole ''camp rock'' movie, without hearing any rock in it, its a disgrace to rock.

MCR/Fallout boy.

a7x, atreyu and bfmv are all good bands. Just because they earn some money doing music doesn't mean they should be hated.

Seriously though, I see them going the Led Zeppelin pathway which I really admire.
Just listen to their albums, especially the latest ones, they're packed with variety.
I loved the newest one for the acoustic parts, and the one before that.
They're deeper than any thrash metal band I've listened to to be honest.

Many of their songs have that "stairway to heaven shape" meaning that the song starts quiet and peaceful and suddenly becomes aggressive.
I think those guys have real talent, more so than Nirvana in my opinion.

But why would you understand any of this

The Offspring! Don;'t make me strangle you. True they turned Mainstream, but they aren't on the same list as bands that were created to be a mainstream band. Theres was a natural development with some crap singles to sell records.
