Ok. so. i am new to recording, and i've got all the equipment i (think i) need.

Anyway... i have a firewire audio interface, a mic and a software. the software i use is reaper. just to get the hold of recording and keeping it simple in the beginning...

So... Thing is, on the interface it says that everything is working properly and it even shows that it's getting sound when i talk into the mic and it says that all the drivers, softwares etc. are working perfectly. but when i click on record in reaper it just doesn't do anything, nothing comes up. it did when i was using the computers default mic, but not now.

Anyone have some kind of idea of what it could be?

Oh, yeah, the equipment i'm using is an Alesis IO 26 firewire interface, a shure sm57 and reaper.

thanks in advance.

Have you selected the new microphone as your primary input in the sound settings screen from the Control Panel?

yes, i am 100% sure of this. I just can't seem to find what's wrong.
