I want to get a distortion pedal that covers a range of John Petrucci, Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai, and Joe satriani. Any suggestions?

I've heard some good things about this pedal.

Also check out some overdrives. If you run two overdrives in a row, it could probably get you enough gain to cover those sounds.

They all have quite distinct tones...

Definitely give the Satchurator, Vai's Jem pedal, and...

Hang on.

You have an MG.
Stop that. Get a better amp.

Steve Vai's Jemini is good. I could use a tad more distortion though. I can't believe my ears. The Satchurator? That pedal really disappointed me. Really?

I can't think of a distortion pedal that can do Metallica and Vai except for a muti-effects unit. Way different tones.

TS if you cant get a new amp, then look at a Raidal Tonebone Hot British distortion

Sell your MG, forget a distortion pedal and get a better amp. If budget is a problem, look at a good modeling amp like a Vypyr 75w
Gibson Les Paul Studio with Catswhiskers pickups
PRS SE 'Floyd' Custom 24 with Creamery pickups
Fender Standard Stratocaster with DiMarzio pickups
Takamine GN30
BluGuitar AMP1

Marshall MG = Crap In A Box
Metal Zone = MG in a smaller box = Crap in a Smaller box

New amp first, a distortion pedal isn't going to make your MG sound great or anything.
