Get a power supply for the pedal instead. What kind of pedal is it?

Take it to him and demand he make it take 9v or give you 9.6v batteries

I honestly don't know where he is right now... He got evicted and lost his job, so I have sort of lost contact with him. Weren't too close of friends. Can I take an almost dead 9v battery, and a normal 9v battery, and clip them together to make a 9.6v power supply?

A 9V battery should still do the trick. The extra 0.6V is within the margin of error of the battery anyway, I wouldn't sweat it.
What did it have in there before? Or is this the first time you've tried to use it?
