Did they ever make a film that people admitted was better than "the book"?

Whenever they make film adaptations, people will always try and appear intellectual by turning their noses up and saying "meh... I preferred the book"
#3
That's because the book is normally better

Just because you're not smart enough to read, doesn't mean you have to make people who prefer books sound elitist

Most pornos, I would say.

I must say though, that whilst "A Night of Company and Prestige" was the most disturbing thing I ever read, I am very glad I did not have to see THAT movie.

I personally felt the Harry Potter films have been better than their book counterpart, those books dragged, and ive read all The Lord Of The Rings books

Horton hears a who? I enjoyed more then the book.

The Bourne Identity book really bored me, for some reason. I know the films became less like the book each time, but they were much more fun and entertaining.

It wouldn't be possible to fit ALL the good bits of lord of the rings in the movie... those people are just stupid.

Lord of the Rings is far better in book form, Holy crap I don't even know where to begin

I didn't think Forrest Gump was a book, this warrants further inspection.

Fgiht Club, The Godfather, Sin City, V for Vendetta, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Silence of the Lambs, James Bond

the more important thing though is can the film create an entirely independent text something unique enough to be assessed seperately from the original but close enough to be considered an adaptation, LOTR succeeds in that regard like no other movie I can think of

No, as a film is one person's interpretation of a novel, and therefore is different to the way you might interpret a film.

QUite simply - you may have envisaged 1 character completely differently to the way the actor portrays them in the film and the way the actor directs the film and establishes an overall mood.

what?! :S a bunch of kids who can't act the first few films are terrible, theyve only just started to get watchable

also respect to the feller who pointed out fight club, its a brilliant movie and thats the only reason the book started selling!

Lord of the Rings IMO.

To Kill a Mockingbird was also a FANTASTIC movie. Loved it. Book and movie tie in how awesome they are.

Forest Gump was a book, but in the book neither Jenny nor his Mum dies. There's also a sequel book that runs through the 80s and 90s. Everynow and again a news story pops up as to whether theyll make the sequel but it doesnt look too likely

I definitely preferred the Lord of the RIngs films to the book. The book just dragged on, and never really seemed to grip me. The films are awesome.

Fight Club was pretty good. I can't say it was better than the book, but it was a little different and better in it's own way.

But that's exactly why the film's are inevitably not as good, because they can't fit everything in...
