Hello Guys and Gals. I thought I'd be a help and start this thread since there are no others. This is a Song Template thread. This will help you really generate some serious ideas for some structures and such for writers when you're stuck and can't think of what to put in for another part in the song.

How it works is listen to the song for phase and riff changes. I'll use the example I have below:

Cradle Of Filth - I Am The Thorn
Riff A
Riff B
Riff C
Riff D
Riff E
Riff B
Riff C
Riff D
Riff E
Riff F
Riff G
Riff F
Riff H
Riff I
Riff J
Riff B (2x Guitar Solo's)
Riff C (2x Guitar Solo's)
Riff E
Riff F
Riff K

Basically what this is is that the template shows you the structure of the given song. By Riffs it shows the whole phrase of the riffs. So as it shows, you start out on Riff A, Move to B, and so on and so on to follow the song. It's not to hard to figure out xD
I think it would be cool for you guys as well to post song templates to other songs so we can make a big compilation!

i like the idea, it makes me think of the part of guitar hero where it tells you the precentages of the song parts you hit. hope this takes off.

i have a generic one i think

Metalcore style songs

Intro
verse
chorus
verse
chorus
breakdown
solo (optional)
verse
breakdown
chorus
outro/ breakdown

Not trying to rain on your parade here, but isn't this kind of information included in tabs?

Because e-cred on a sub-par 4Chan knockoff forum is what everyone strives to achieve.
We believe - so we're misled
We assume - so we're played
We confide - so we're deceived
We trust - so we're betrayed

Not all the time. They'll say like Riff A, Riff B, Riff C, etc. but not all them tell you when to play what and what order.

These show you the actual structures of songs and such. They really help for writing as well because you can pick one and write riffs to it that fit it and then you have a song in that structure. Very nifty.

The 'Riff A' can be one actual Riff, or a whole phrase, depending how you hear it and how you want it to be written.
