I was hoping to get a carvin next year but I think someone on here might be able to do better. I have the hardware and electronics and i will get a gibson headstock overlay as well as the fret board material. The mahogany body, single layer birdseye maple trim and maple neck material need to be supplied by you.

I was thinking of somthing like the picture below.

This is the top I have. It is only 5/16" think. If that is too slim for a paul top let me know and I will look into a strat.

Id like the neck pocket to be like the new les paul customs. Kinda like an hourglass rather than just a block. That is not critical. Also, i would like to have an asymetrical neck.

What do you guys think?

So you have all the hardware?

That will run you $700 - $900 if you go through the guy in my sig, LP Addict, not sure about nuthinbutrubl8, PM him as well.

I'd love to do it if I had the tools...

Cool, I got the pics to show proper. I am about to buy all the tools I need to get started. Of course I could just bum off my brothers shop.

Problem is that top is so nice, I dont wanna fu ck it up since I have never built anything before.

Is 5/16" to shallow or will it work?

I do like the pointy horn better and instead of a gibson headstock , id rather have it the same as the top with maybe a cool inlay.

^ That sucks cause it is perfect. What do you recommend? Maybe a flat top paul. Could a strat work at all with rounded edges? Cant really picture it but it may be just thick enough for that.
#8
Wait, why are you buying all the tools to get started if you want someone else to build it?

And LP, $800 even though he has all the hardware?

^ Well, like I said on #3, I've never built anything before and I dont wanna F U the top cause I doubt Ill find another like that. I suppose I could build a couple practice pauls and just paint them white. I have more money than time and I really want that guitar soon.

I could be wrong. Are there alot of site that sell wood that looks that good out there?

I went to the main site and those prices are even cheaper. I changed the link. You can still find him on ebay too.
#17
thats a ****ing RIDICULOUS price for that wood. my lumber yard has 7' long boards of stuff that looks like that for 200.

and i charge 700+ on labor, buyer must pay for all hardware before i start.
#18
Is 1" thick enough for a neck? I know they can be 3 piece, but would 1" x 5" x 34" work?

You can tell I know dick about this but I want to learn and help however I can.
#19
LP if you can get all the wood (ill keep the top for a day when I can build) and I send all the hardware, do you think you could make the paul in #1 for 700, plus material cost?
#21
Right on. Maybe the strat is the way to go. I figured the headstock could be a three piece rather than one. Does that still require special tools?

I wouldnt mind a flat top paul with pointy horn.

cool, shouldnt have questioned your need for the right tools man. my bad.

Wow, that is the most absurdly good deal on such a fine top as I have ever had the pleasure to see....

That's a steal and a half, I bet you could turn that around on eBay for at least $200.
#28
^ Truth, I didnt know better when I bought it. I'll think about the strat and I hadnt considered a tele until you mentioned it. Thanks LP!

I have an original body shape to, resembling that of an RG. I think a flat top strat or tele with black binding and a nice oil/poly rub on finish would really bring out the sexiness of that quilt.

You mean ridiculously high I would imagine?

I didn't know you had access to figured wood! I wants it for mah next build .

If you can sell wood that looks that good for less than $100, you have yourself a customer. Well you already do... but I'll buy more things from you.
