Just wondering what people on UG generally think of using effects pedals or otherwise to create strange sounds?

Some people I know don't regard it as music, but I think if it sounds good then why not?

Define strange. Like Tom Morello strange?
“In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

Yeah that sort of thing, its sort of hard to explain, like using feedback in a song or doing tricks with volume swells... if you know what I mean?
Hard to explain as I said

I'm quite fond of circuit bending pedals I don't need.

It's cool, and can sound really good. Thumbs up in my book.

There's a 25 page thread about using pedals for ambient/experimental music.
