I've got an SG junior with a single P-90 at the bridge and I was wondering if it's possible and/or worth the effort to add a second P-90 at the neck.

No. You can't have two pick-ups in the same position. Thats common sense

Are you sure you don't mean at the neck?

You could add one at the neck, but putting another one at the bridge is rediculous.

EDIT: Does your guitar have a pickup selector? Because if not, you're going to need to put one in, which will take drilling and more wiring. I can't see why it would have one, though, if you only have one pickup.

Is this what your guitar look like?

If it is, you have a lot of work to do. I can help you a bit.

I've got a tune-o-matic bridge which is the only difference.

Here are your main problems:

The pickguard.
Installing the pickup selector switch.

I'm not too familiar with this guitar, but I'll help you a bit. The first thing you want to check is take the pickguard off and see if there are any electronics underneath it. I don't think there are any, because of where your pots are.

If there are no electronics, you can do it. You are going to have to cut a new space for the new pickup. Use a router for this. After you cut the new hole, run the pickup wires from the neck through the guitar to the bridge pickup, and then into the cavity that your pots are in.

With me so far? You then need to drill yet another hole for a pickup selector switch and wire it all up. If you want tone and volume controls for the pickup, you have to drill two more holes for those pots and wire it up.

After you do all of that, you will realise your pickguard doesn't fit anymore. You have two options:

Cut a hole in the pickguard that the pickup can fit in; or
Make a completely new pickguard.

It's a very long process for this guitar.

I know there's room for it. My main concern is the wiring. How do I get the wires from the pickup to the electronics section thing. Would I drill from the new pickup hole to the old and use the original hole that goes to the electronics thing?

Yeah that's basically it. If you're lucky you should be able to get a drill that can drill from the neck hole to the bridge hole. Then run the wires into the pot cavity. There will already be a hole drilled from the bridge pickup, but you may need to make the hole bigger to run the new wires through.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking.

I'll post back in this thread when I've got all the stuff. I'm not sure when that will be, it might be a while.
