ok so here is the deal. me and some friends are starting a pop punk-ish band (rise against, AFI, linkin park) My best friend who is in the band is a great lyricist and a fun dude. but the only problem is he plays synth. how can we incorporate this into writing songs and doing covers? I can't really kick him out because we started this together. help please.

Go listen to Motion City Soundtrack. Oh, and AFI and LP both have a lot of keyboards, he should be able to play those parts.

write and arrange synth parts... The synth is one of the most versatile instruments out there and can be incorporated into pretty much any genre of music.

um, Linkin Park use synths. As well as many newer punk bands. Maybe you should listen to the CDs more carefully?

i don't see why synths are so hard to incorporate. the backstreet boys used a synth all the time and look at how awesome they were.

Aside from AFI, I don't see why you're associating those bands with Pop-Punk.

But on to your question. As stated already, Linkin Park has all kinds of added effects you could use a synth for. You can find lots of other bands with synth parts that would expect. For example, Incubus or Lostprophets.

And as for originals, I don't see what the problem is. Have him write some synth parts that sound cool and have him throw them in. That's how bands work. Each member writes parts for their instruments.

I love the Backstreet Boys. Legit, they were sick.

I don't see how a band member knowing how to use synths is ever a problem.
