I searchbarred! To counteract the depression caused by the worst city thread, why not have a best city one?

I nominate Bath, 'tis smashing!

Newcastle, its just plain awesome

EDIT: Reasons i think this are [not just because its my home town]:

- Great night life
- Nice people
- I like my own accent =/
- Newcastle chavs talk funny
- The football fans are great too, so loyal even though we're pretty terrible

thats a few points.

Birmingham, obviously.

You didn't think this through did you? You do realise it's just going to be people nominating their hometowns...

Glasgow.

yah

I'd say Perth, but it's not a city

Not Aberdeen anyway.

Glasgow's the best in Scotland anyway imo. Just dodge the neds and avoid a chibbing and it's fine
Nah it's good for gigs etc. Everybody plays in Glasgow.

I'd imagine there's probably better places in the rest of the UK though.

I'm going to say Birmingham because of Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

Bath is nice. York for certain.

I've been to liverpool, hull, manchester, london, brighton, nottingham and cardiff which were all really bad in places - Bath and York were more consistently nice.

^It's got the Viking centre! And Bath has the Roman Bath House. Hmm, I see a pattern emerging!

I'd say Perth, but it's not a city

It's also a sh*tehole

Glasgow is the most fun city I've been to, but Edinburgh is a nicer place to be.

What, with Thatcher in power? I doubt it.

Exeter is nice because:

a. I live near there and I go to college there everyday. Generally clean and nice to shop around

b. There is usually really good street music happening. We have a swing singer who plays outside of the new Debenhams a lot.

c. The summer here can be very hot, and laying on the cathedral green makes the burning nearly worth while - unless EVERYONE in that vicinity is there.

I've been to Bristol briefly, and it seemed nice.
NOPE.

Glasgow because, emmm... being jumped is fun?

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.
#30
Ermm... Well definately not Nottingham. I quite like Sheffield, good night life and the people seem to be alot more down to earth than here in Notts (generalization).

I'm thinking of applyinh to Leeds or Salford conservatoire before the end of the year, so I hope they are decent enough cities.
#32
Bristol.
The only city in the world where I can dress as a Pirate all weekend and not be killed.

That's my only reason really...
#33
Birmingham - its got everything London has without the tourists....or the tourist attractions....or the Queen...ok it hasn't got everything London's got but its got enough

Closely followed by Bristol - its pretty, its got a great nightlife, and its only an hour from Brum
#34
I like the way people are just naming where they are from. Best city in England (I say England because the best city in the UK obviously isn't in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland) is probabaly London if you take away the people and the knives.

Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle.

I'm a Northern lad and have only been to London once and although it seemed great I've been to these cities more times and they just seem ace places. Leeds has some stunning architecture both old and new and is meant to have a great very student-y nightlife, although I'm too much of a goon to have sampled it. Manchester I've visited and just really enjoyed both places and I hope to go to Uni at either.

Exeter, Oxford, York, Bath, Poole (not a city), Ely, Wells (tiny, pretty cities).

I forgot about Wells. Also, fact fans, the place where they filmed Hot Fuzz, I believe Edgar Wright grew up there or something. And Oxford is great, what I've seen of Poole is good.

I like what I've seen of Oxford.

I'm from Reading which isn't too bad, but it's a town.

Lincoln, nah it's ****, all we have is a league 2 team and a cathedral

I'd probably say York
