My first skylark guitar arrived in the post today. £99 including fitted hard case! (+£12 postage) Bargain?

It looks excellent, but as it's a cheap Asian import it's build quality isn't really upto scratch. It's action is too high and it's tuning stability is atrocious so I expect I'll have to buy new tuners (I presume it's fitted with factory strings so I'll take it to the local guitar shop to see whether tuning stability can be improved by simply buying decent strings). The pickups are pretty diverse yet I just can't get a decent sound out of it. Is it therefore worth investing in new tuners? Or is there another way of improving tuning stability?

I'm also interested whether anyone else has heard of this brand/has played skylark guitars? They're a very small company in the UK that sell some lovely looking guitars - be sure to check out their website. Hell of a lot better than anything from Argos! Is there a better guitar for £99?

dunno, but if you can stretch to ~£150, the yamaha pacifica 112s come into play...

i'd be wary of throwing too much money at a cheap guitar... might be a false economy.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

i dunno. the problem is that tuning can be a couple of things- nut, tuners, etc. can get expensive to fix, especially on a cheap guitar. might be safer to just cut your losses and send it back, assuming you're still covered by distance-selling regulations.
