Not sure what to really classify this as. A poem, i guess. Not very good but I just wanted to get it out there. Rip it apart for me!

“The Edge of Everything”

The night was cold, dark as ever
aided by endless lashing of wind
and rain to freeze even bone,
Still, the homeward walk remained
peaceful in its own way,
for the walk knew nothing of my troubles,
my loneliness and empty heart,

The footsteps beneath me
seemed empty, shoes filled
with something not alive,
In this moment I took time to ask,
how can someone without love
truly live? Not a typical life,
but one filled with joy
uncommon in such a storm as this,

The bridge ahead mixing with night
as everything normally did,
But the shadow on the edge
was something strange to see,
Approaching I glanced upon
a sight few even imagine,
a life hanging loosely
in the unbalance,

The shadow was of a girl,
I approached with care
in each step, feeling
the fear for her as she
evidently did not,
Our eyes met in a moment
of peace, almost harmony,

I simply stared into a pair
of eyes, empty as anything
before them yet still full
of passion, for what I could not tell,
The rain pounding the pavement
and the thunder clapping
could not end the seemingly endless silence,

Finally, she spoke,
calm in a way that seemed
as if nothing was wrong,
The words from her mouth
made my heart skip,
only to be followed by thunderous pounds,

She asked me, “How can someone
without love, truly live?”
At that moment, I felt as if
it was me who was falling,
this stranger, upon our first meeting,
felt as lonely as I,
and in doing so I realized,
we are not alone anymore,

She seemed to realize as well,
but tragedy has a way
with unfortunate timing,
Making an effort to step from her edge,
the knowledge of wet steel slipped her mind
as her wet foot slipped from the rail,

I lunged, unsure of what may happen,
but not worried for after all,
the future is unsure of itself,
She toppled over the rail,
though not before I grasped her hand,
In my unbalanced state, friction betrayed me
as I followed suit over as well,

I was able to grab the rail
on the way over, and so there I was;
In one hand, the woman who most certainly
would have become my love,
her hand so sweet, delicate and warm,

In the other, the frigid, wet and miserable steel,
my final chance to live
to see such love,
Despite the moment, I was unable to help
but think of the irony,
My undiscovered love, lovely in every way,
yet so helpless while weighing me down
as a burden never could,
And my saving grace, metal cold enough
to chill the soul, yet I could never release it,

She ordered me to let her drop,
save myself and go home,
even worse now, my love wriggling desperately away
for my sake, while the steel remained firm in my grasp,
Let my love go and live forever guilty and alone,
Or let our love go, to death but everlasting,
the choice simple enough, so it seemed,
so why was I still holding on?

There we hung, on the edge of everything,
the outcome out of my hands,
while actually in my hands alone,
I hesitated, glanced downward, and yelled
the three words couples hear most,
words overused yet still meaning more
than history’s most powerful speeches,

She glanced up to me, our names unknown
to each other, and returned our final three words,
as the wet rail finally shook us away,

Upon our few remaining seconds,
I pulled her to me, fully embracing
for the first and final time,
our dry, nerve-frozen lips met
as we fell for eternity,
death so present and so miniscule,
love dominating the scene,
our bodies never parting,
our love never ceasing,
our time everlasting.

wow

great story there. loved it. very captivating, usually i just read something and write a few lines about what I thought, never really relating to a piece. this blew me away, the *love* story about how she jumps and he decides to jump with her. I absolutely loved it.

promise me one thing, that you will continue to keep writing
