i basically want to have some people who know more than me or that have a XXX to help me out here. i am aiming to have a, how do you say, brootalz, tone, and i need some more suggestions. so would using an eq definitely help me? also, would a pedal or a rack mounted one be better? also, i have heard that if i want extra, i can use some kind of overdrive? if so, which would be the best type of od to use?
thanks in advance

xxx/jsx/ultra thread is your friend. use it.
Peavey XXX combo *upgraded screen resistors, Tung-Sol's, and 6L6's*
Schecter Syn Std. * modded, scalloped, and worn*
Schecter C-1 Elite *still sexy*

^^Yes an EQ pedal and an OD pedal would help. That's not specific to the XXX. I'd look into the MXR 10 band and something like a Bad Monkey OD or similar OD pedal that can act as a clean boost (Maxon/Tubescreamer). Not sure that you need rack gear at this point.

the reason i asked about rack gear was because i can get a rack eq for pretty cheap from this dude i know. so a tubescreamer would be good? any other suggestions?

define your definition of the brootz?

you shouldnt need any more gain than you already have on tap....i used to have a eq with mine..but i found it's not needed with the xxx..

#1-the active eq takes a little getting used to..12 oclock is zero,.11 oclock is -1,..1 oclock is +1,...so start with your eq @ 12 oclock across the board,...

#2-the tight/mid/loose switch in the back has a huge effect,..

#3-what speakers are you running in your cab?....the xxx hates gt75's,...loves v-30's

#4-are you using the effects loop?

#5-are you using any other pedals?

2. which setting is the best?
3. i have the eminence legends that come in the vader 4x12
4. yes
5. i use a chorus and sometimes a phaser, but only with the clean

edit. the brootz would be referring to death metal style tones, new cannibal corpse, necrophagist

fast reply!

not sure there is a "best" setting..but i'll give you mine

i would start with no effects in front of the amp,..and bypass the effects loop with the foot switch,..

tight/mid/loose switch in the mid position (this switch is like adding compression..with tight being the most compression)

master vol-maxxed
hair-1;30
body-9;00
bottom-1;30
vol-nil (start with it off..and slowly inch it up ..it wont take much)
gain-2;00 (or max it if you want some big brootz)

i use this setting for both my ultra/crunch channels

after you have got your sound the way you like it,..then add your effects,...dont beafraid to try things in the loop and in front of the amp...change the order around etc.)

if you find that your sound is "fizzy"...it's your speakers...and you'll need to try some different cabs/speakers

good luck....hope this helps

also, i have an ns-2, where would be the best place to run this into?

Guitar --- Tube Screamer/Dist --- amp input. Run your chours and stuff through the FX loop.
