I'm looking for some woods that are similar to alder in tonal qualities, color doesn't matter too much. I need a wood that is slight more bright then balanced, but it needs to be heavy. Alder is too light for me. I don't like light-weight guitars.

hard ash maybe?

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

Alder is middle of the road so you are looking at poplar, padouk, wenge, koa or may be bass wood (on the bassier side) and ash (on the brighter side).

Basswood is lighter than Alder

And I would probably personally go with hard Ash, but it's more expensive.

Therefore, get Oak.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

Mahogony is good stuff I'd say.

I want a guitar made of the bones of my slain enemies.

But not similar to alder
