Ive been reading about some common mods and stompbox projects and Ive noticed a lot of love for the Danelectro FAB distortion. So my question is this, first of all, since its obviously not true bypass is it good with my blues jr. ? The FAB Overodrive, does it color the tone? Finally, what exactly does a chorus do and can any of these be moded.

it depends on how well trained your ear is. i dont believe it will color the amp's tone that much at all, but if you are worried, take in your amp to a shop that is selling the disto, and ask to play it through your amp.

also, a chorus does what its names implies: takes your signal, multiplies it (with some sharp and flat tones behind it) and then sends it out. think of one vocalist singing a middle C, then a whole chorus singing middle C.

edit: and everything can be mod'ed....just some things can be mod'ed more than others.

Is an overdrive worth having when I get a decent overdrive through my amp (used for a little extra oomph)

If looking at Danelectro I would look at the Coolcat series, I've heard some good stuff from Harmony Central forums. Seems legit true bypass, all metal construction etc etc for 24-60 bucks depending on effect
