I didn't really know where this belonged so if this is the wrong place then just let me know.

Recently I've been discussion forming a sort of informal "band" with a friend to do covers (for now). Today was the first jam session where we just kinda screwed around. For me, this is the first time I've played with another person.

The first song we decided to play was Metallicas unforgiven. The clean parts went great but when the distorted sections came up things got ugly. I have a roland cube 30 and my distortion was a more gritty type of distortion while he had a marshall mg and that had a smoother distortion suitable for classic/hard rock.

While it sounded ok but it was muddy and not very clear. How can I make the two guitars sound "right" with each other?

Thanks

He should turn all of his settings to 0 on his MG.

hahahahahahahah priceless!

Truth is, it's going to be hard with those amps together at high volumes. It's just mud central.

I've tried turning down the distortion on the amp. It didn't make much of a difference. I'll try again later.

me and my band had same problem. I got a distortion pedal and he got his and we sat down and worked out our sound. His having more bass and heavier sounding and me with a brighter lead tone

get a cable splitter, lug both guitars into cable splitter, runn one cable to amp.

my friend uses this set-up but reverse, 1 guitar-2amps,and it works just fine.

because connecting 2 sound sources into the same preamp where you get the overdrive from is going to distort both the sound sources as 1 single signal which sounds horrible.

It works with 1 guitar into multiple amps because there's still only 1 sound going into each amplifier.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.
