I've decided to build me a 2X12 cab

so this thread is for me to post pics in and ask questions.

here's what i've got before i start.

Im building it out of birch so she'll be good and strong
I got the pieces cut for me today at home depot.

dimensions of the internal space are 29" x 15"x15"

it's open back

the 4' by 8' birch plywood was 66$ canadian at home depot.
they cut it up for me for free and there is plenty left.

Won't plywood dampen the sound, making the tone worse?

Canadian prices are a bit higher than the US right ? so i could probably expect to pay like $45-$55-ish ?

I did A LOT of research before deciding on birch plywood, As mikey said most of the cabs out there are plywood, some a MDF.

pretty much the only thing you CAN'T use is particle board a it explodes on ya because it can't take resonating.

And it won't dampen the sound, especially not in an open back cab.

Yea that's right a bit cheaper.

And yea I've got a really cool idea, I'm going to do a black grill with red tolex, im using these handles

then get a snap-on decal and put it in the corner so it looks like a tool box lol

Oh okay thanks for clearing that up. Because I know building a guitar out of plywood is a bad idea.

Hey guys here is a pic of the wood.

and my speakers just shipped today, veteran 30's yay.

Oh and that little orange box is another project, its a ds-1 i'm modding

Edit:
I've also got a question,
When rounding the corners on my cab, can i use 1/2" or 3/8" rounding??

its best to use a bit about 1/2 as big as the thickness of wood, so i hear

you better check under the sea,
because that's where you'll find me..."

okay guys i've started construction on the box, i decided to do finger joints, problem is the some of the joints were loose and allow light and air through.

So i filled the cracks in with wood puddy and i plan on doing a line of silicon cocking along all the edges inside the box will this affect the tone at all, because structurally its VERY strong??

edit: plus the cocking will make it air tight
[quote="'[VictorinoX"]']damn straight. How do our ghetto counterparts say..."Kickin it old school"?

Actually I built a guitar out of birch plywood (just the body not the neck). It is one best sounding and easiest to play out of all my guitars, and the pickups are only ok (the stock pups from a DeArmond M-65C)
