Sadly I think I'm going to start building a rack, my excuse is that the other guitarist in my band is selling me his sonic maximizer for cheap.

So anyway, is it ok to put a rack tuner in the FX loop?

Also does anyone know any good compressors/gates in one for around 100 - 200 USD?

If by "clean" you mean "get a finger right up in there and do a good bit of spelunking" then i guess "at any given opportunity" is my answer.

You can put the tuner in the loop, but I really recommend you keep it out of your signal chain. If you have any extra outs use that for the tuner. For example, my TC electronics has stereo out, I run one back into my amp and the other into the tuner. 0 tone loss. A lot of pedals have an amp out and a mixer out, you could also use the mixer out for the tuner. Same deal really.

Anyone have any experience with that?

If you can find a used Rocktron 300G (out of production) I really like them. Here is a pic of mine. I think it's very musical sounding in a guitar rig.

The DBX 160A, 160X, 266XL are very nice compressors too... "Benchmarks"
