That looks prerty sweet, but you're going to put rubber or something between the stand and your guitar right?
And also, get some rubber balls and place them over the points when you're not in "METAL!!!!" mode, it could cause a serious injury.

Do you realize how much this is going to weigh if you use steel? The thickness you'd have to use for it to be stable would make this really really heavy....

Maybe you could try aluminum, but what tools do you have to work with?

i tried cuttin some stuff out of mild steel an it didnt turn out to bad. i used a jig saw with a black an decker metal blade on it

an btw there will be rubber between to guitar and the stand

That's interesting...

Just don't engrave anything on it until you learn how to spell scorpion.

I'd like to see this with a guitar on it, it's going to be mega sweet.

TS, you DO know that it isn't "scorpian" right?

The correct spelling is S-C-O-R-P-I-O-N

Well steel can handle stretching and stress better than aluminum, so you wouldn't need as thick of a sheet of steel as you would aluminum. That being said, aluminum is still probably the better choice because it's lighter, being about 1/3 the density of steel, so long as you found some way to brace or strengthen the bend you've got going in your design I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Also, I'm sure you've already thought of this but you'll need some foam or felt on the parts where the guitar sits and up at the neck rest.

It looks like it would scratch and dent the hell out of your guitar.

That's pretty bad ass, and I wouldn't worry about the weight of it, especially with mild steel, you need that weight for stability and you wouldn't be moving it around that much anyway.

The only thing I'd be worried about is how labor intensive it looks.

right people UPDATES!!!!! (but no pics)

right, after a long talk with my tech teacher (who is also my pt) in pt today, we have decided to make it simpler i will have to cut the main scorpion bit out in sections, and attatch them to a spine that will also bend out to become the back leg. it WILL be made out of mild steel, as the material has arrived (Y) and plus all aluminium my school has sucks in a big way - its wayyyyyyyy to thin. that is all.

cool. You'll probably be able to polish the hell outta that and clear up the welds. no big deal. worst comes to worse, you spraypaint it with some textured paint and you'll be fine.

It's not that hard. He had it set way too hot.

I would test the weld strength before I used it. Shoddy weld jobs rarely hold up well. Don't want it snapping when a guitar is sitting on it.

^agreed

If it's solid enough, you could always electroplate it with gold or something. That'd cover up any shoddy weld points

Its easy to tell what kind of welder he used. If he puts sticks in it, then its arc. If wire comes out of it, then its most likely a mig. Looks sweet. I gotta get me a welder one of these days...
