Hey guys I have been wondering this ever since I have been planning to make a band.

How are vocals/mics amplified?

Most places already have microphones to use, but incase I needed more mics that the place didn't provide or if there aren't any mics at all, what would you amplify the mics through?

I know you are not supposed to use a guitar amp for microphones, but I want to know what you use.

Most places already have speakers or a PA system, but if you were just practicing with a band, what would you use.

EDIT: I just realized somebody else made a thread about this at around the same time as I did.

You'll need a mixer, amp and some PA speakers.

Don't forget the mics. Shure SM-58s work nice, but there are other options out there. Best to find something that works well with your voice.

Would I be able to use this?

I would have to use mic-to-1/4-inch mic cables with these though, but is no problem. I already have 2.

*I am not the vocalist for my band though, I don't even have a vocalist yet. I might do backing vocals though.

I know what to do with the mics and the mixer though.

I mean that in the nicest way possible of course.

By the way, even though most places already have a PA system, I need something for band practice.

I will probably use the SM58s for the mic. I already have a mixer I can use.

Is it a powered mixer though?

You need a power amp to actually drive the speaker..
