I bought this tube amp on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200303021601&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

What is that metal casing all the way to the left? That's where the 12AX7 goes, so is that a plug of some sort. Excuse me if this is an incredibly stupid question. It says its a ceramic shielded socket, does that mean that i will have to get my own 12AX7 and then rebias the amp? Or is the tube inside of that casing? Please help

The tube should be inside that casting. Thats the way it is in my JCM800.

Thanks a lot guys. He seems like a good guy, certainly wouldn't try to trick me (I think... ) I just wanted a quick answer, and this forum is the best! Thanks again...

yeahup, its a shield to keep stray EMI fields out of the tube and to hold the tube in place. Push it down about 1/8", rotate it a little bit, and pull it up to remove it and get at the tube.
