Why do punk guitarists Tim Armstrong and Tom Delonge use semi hollow body guitars? Arent they more for like 50's sounding rock

Semi-Hollows tend to get those warmer tones that are perfect for punk rock.

Hollowbodies give you a warmer and thicker tone. Believe me, I have one and I love it more than myself.

I guess punk guitarists like them because they sound wonderous on chords.

You can use them for other stuff. I was able to get a pretty good metal sound out of my friend's semi-electric guitar, and later I got the cleanest tone I've ever heard from a guitar.
