Hey, me and my friend are going to do a little show...
I will be playing my acoustic 12 string and she will be singing.

She has a very bluesy and soulful voice, so I am wondering could you guys think of some songs we could do?

I want a song somewhat entertaining to play on the guitar, and decent music (no colbie callet or whatever)

thanks!

To me, Jonas Brothers sound identical to Dragonforce. So I'm not sure what you've just proved.

Mouthful of Cavities - Blind Melon

That would sound awesome on twelve string! If you can sing that would be great.. if you haven't heard it, Shannon Hoon sings and a girl echoes him basically.. its awesome. Great guitar in it too.
#5
Hmm, I won't be singing FYI.

What do you guys think about Jack Johnson?

I think he's a guy, and that it would be weird for a girl to sing his songs.

Try Whiskey Lullubye if you can find a guy to do the duet. Or if you can sing good enough to duet with her. Seriously, do it.

Bluesy... how about Tush, Whole Lotta Love, or Who Do You Love?

If you wanna go with something more recent and poppy, maybe something from Paramore if she can pull off the vocal. That chick has pipes.
#9
Lol, well bluesy, soulful....I have something to add to my previous reply.

Aretha Franklin or Gladys Knight songs. Of course, you'd have to work out the guitar part on your own, but you want some songs for a girl with some serious pipes? There ya go.

I disagree totally, I think it can work out great when a girl sings a song that we're all used to hearing a bunch of guys singing.

The trick, and I'm sure the TS knows this already, is to find out what key the girl sings in and then adapt that particular song for her. The combination of key change (usually) and the voice is what makes it imo.

I used to play with a girl who sang Dear Prudence..it was so haunting and she killed it every time...Im still jealous, but what a great sound just fingerpicking an acoustic with her vocals....

Wrong. And stupid. And wrong.

You can do pretty much any song. Me and my fiance will try anything. Just play it in a good key for the voice, and try just about anything.

I was just saying a few of his songs wouldn't work out all that well, IMO.

Breaking The Girl by RCHP would sound awesome on a 12stringed acoustic and a female singer.

I think you should end the set with a Red House Painters song. Brockwell Park maybe? Would sound so nice with female vocals and a 12 string.

Maybe (I can't believe I'm saying this) an SRV song? Like "Life By The Drop?" SRV played most, if not all, of his acoustic songs on a 12 string

Nobody here knows music. Paramore and Heart aren't the only artists who make good music and have girl singers. Neither, in fact, make good music. I mean, if they have a picture of Kenny Chesney for their avatar... enough said.

Soul Meets Body - Death Cab for Cutie
Benediction by the Weakerthans
With Arms Outstretched by Rilo Kiley
Une Année Sans Lumier by Arcade Fire
For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Old Enough - the Raconteurs
any song by Frank Bell
He War by Cat Power
Skinny Love by Bon Iver

I've played all of these with girl singers, at least.

I never said Paramore or heart where the only good bands with female singers. But i agree with all those songs also.

Bah, it wasn't directed at anyone in specific: it's just that the masses think that there's paramore and then nothing else.

I really hope you weren't talking about me. If you were, then you sir, are an idiot. My avatar isn't Kenny Chesney genious. It's Brad Paisley, and he owns Kenny Chesney in every concievable way. Not only that, but he could easily outplay you, and probably everyone on this forum.

Now that I have that out of the way, was the flaming necessary? You could have just been mature and made your suggestions instead of insulting everyone here just because they don't listen to as much music as you. Forgive me for having a life beyond music.

Id like to point out to you a few reasons why I think youre a moron

1) Arch Enemy uses a blues-esque melody in the chorus of Nemesis
2) I clearly said it was a joke
3) Most female singers sing/play country which, HOLY **** has an ACOUSTIC GUITAR in most country songs
4) You're being 100% closed minded
5) You probably couldn't even keep up with Michael Amott

Have a nice day!

And I'd just like to advocate that I've never seen a cover of Creed go wrong when sang by a woman. Look in to it.

Samson - Regina Spektor

Just play the chords, shouldn't be too hard to change it a bit.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake, you just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
