I noticed a lot of the LTD models have had their hardware downgraded lately, which is a shame, because i was about to pick up one. Whats the difference between the Floyd rose 1000 series compared to the original. Obvisouly I know its lower quality, but how so?

The OFR is made of higher quality metal so that it takes much longer to wear out, the OFR is typically smoother and the tuning stability is usually better. Also, the OFR is made in Germany I think while those are made in Korea, China or some other cheap labor Asian country.

I see. Thats really the deal breaker then, its the only bad part of the guitar, what a shame. Are they only doing this because of the economy, or what?

I'm assuming that or it just gives them a few dollars more per guitar. The price difference between an OFR and the cheaper Asian ones is pretty considerable. I think an OFR could be mounted without routing if it's a decent one though, but I haven't gotten exact measurements on the Asian ones.
