I have an Ibanez with a floyd rose. I usually tune it to e-standard but I also want to play 1/2 step down. Can I just tune down with the fine tuners? Or will that screw something up?
#2
You can if you restring the guitar with the fine tuners almost all the way down at first.

^ Can't. You can't change tunings without causing the bridge to be unparallel.

You have to unlock the nut, retune using the machineheads, reset the bridge, retune using machineheads, then once it's parallel and in tune, lock the nut THEN use fine tuners.

I didn't know fine tuners moved the bridge.
Huh, well thanks.

Fine tuners can change how the bridge sits but usually only if they are really loose or really tight.

The fine tuners don't move anything - decreasing string tension moves the bridge. It doesn't matter if you tune with the headstock tuners or the fine tuners, if you start changing the tuning you're changing string tension and that means the bridge will move.

Ive got the solution to your problem

1. Set guitar for Eb
2. Use capo to go back up to standard when necessary

Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.

Crap, I forgot about that part.

Surely going half a step down wont move the bridge too much?

Actually yes it will you wouldnt think so but it will. Floating trem guitars are delicatley balanced any changes to that will effect that balance in a bad way.

When the bridge goes off level from drop tuning your intonation also moves slightly back and that sucks.

It sounds very similar... If you play something enough when all strings are equally out of tune, it will be just like the real thing for your brain.

play a unison bend and listen to the unbent note go noticeably flat as the bend pulls on the bridge a tiny amount, changing tuning will move the bridge a lot more.
