Hey, I'm a complete noob at recording and was hoping for some advice.

Right now, I'm using a macbook (the regular white one) and use garageband. I'm able to record acoustic and vocals, but through the use of the computer's mic. I'm still denied when it comes to electric. A friend of mine bought a cable with a 1/8" input on both sides and uses an adapter to plug into his guitar, but as far as I can tell my computer doesn't have a mic input. So of course I figure maybe a USB port is the answer.

Does that actually look like it would work? And does anyone have any other suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Personally I'm not a big fan of anything I've ever used that Alesis made, their electronic drums sound very artificial. However I havn't tried one of these, given the choice I'd get a Line Six Tone Port instead though

I looked up tone port, but it got mediocre reviews and this looks pretty nice.
