The first one has my choice of colour but the second one has nice pup covers but hardware and tone wise, I don't get it, which one is better??

the black one has a fixed bridge, the blue one has a tremelo
pick up covers dont matter much
as a matter of fact they have been known to kill tone

My conclusion is that the black one is just different pickups and a reverse headstock.

They're gonna sound pretty much the same. Body material is the same, hardware is pretty much the same quality - the tremolo is the obvious difference. Most of the differences between those two are superficial. The first one has a single coil in the middle position.

Unless you're just starting out, IMO, I'd save up another hundred and go for an RG321.

If it's your first electric, go with the GRG170DX. Amazing for its price.
I must stop wasting time in The Pit and practice!

You'll never find EMG and Ibanez GRG in the same sentence unless someone is seriously misguided.

They're IBZ PSND pickups with matte black covers.

Its my first time, and I don't know which one to go for...which one do you guys prefer personally if you were starting out and it wasa choice between these 2?

Oh, and are the pups better on the 09 model? (no tremelo)

I would go with the hardtail I dont trust the FAT 10 trem or whatever on the other one. Or just save up a 100 more and get the RG321 as has been said.
