Hey, so I'm planning on painting my small bedroom light green because the current wall paint is bland white, old, and stained. So I've been reading up a little on painting a room, but I'm still not quite sure of a few things...

Will I need to coat the walls with primer if the walls have already been painted before?

Why is it necessary to paint 2 times?

What happens if I don't use spackle to fill up any small nail holes and paint over it?

...modes and scales are still useless.

need two coats to make it an even finish

you'll have lumpy walls otherwise, and also as soon as your done you'll look back and notice all the bits you missed first time round

You dont need to use primer, just paint right over it. As for the double coat, it's not necessary but with a single coat there's always patches that you have missed.
I can't believe you had to ask how to paint a wall though haha

well, here i go
spacke is to remove imperfections, if you are using the same based paint, no need to prime,
reason for 2 thin coats a opposed to one thick coat= more even finish.

i paint mode kits, so i have to know this so they dont look like kack

What imperfections??

I have no idea if it's the same based paint... It just looks like plain flat white paint...how many types are there?

Also yes, I am not using glossy. I'm using eggshell.

yeah mulitple thin coats for sure maybe even more than two because youre using a different color. the dude that said you dont have to prime it is right but it might help richen the color up if you do. paint stores can make you primer thats close to the same color as youre using but it probably wont matter much if its a light color.

To the people who said I'll miss patches...

What if I was really really really careful the first time around?

its realy w0rht doing 2 thinner coats dont skimp on a job, youll regret it later
Yea, I guess. I just don't want to have to buy another bucket of paint... but quality results = money well spent, so we'll see. Hopefully 1 gallon will be enough to cover my small room.

You won't be

No one is. You will miss bits.

It's like checking an essay for spelling errors as soon as you finish it.

Okay fiiinne.

But if that's the case, can't I just paint over the patches instead of painting a whole new layer?

1. it'll look patchy
2. the other reasons for using more than one coat. Evenness, etc. You don't get that evenness with the amount of paint you'd have to use to make it look 'solid' on the first coast.
