Get a roland cube 30x. It's a modelling amp, like the Spider, but sounds much better.

It's also one of the best SS modelling amps for the money.

i'd look at the peavey vypyr 30, its basically better than the spider in every aspect. i cant think of any good non-modeling amps that would be good in that budget, but maybe someone can come in, what styles do you play?
