I just recently picked up a guitar after two years of bass playing and im trying to find some mellow slower songs to learn that are easier. Stuff in the classic rock or metal field

Try a horse with no name by america, pretty slow only two chords.

Mellow slower songs in the metal field? Is that an oxymoron? Just kidding. Maybe learn stairway to heaven without the solo. It's not too bad and since you have bass experience you should have no problem. Any Nirvana song is pretty easy to start out. Maybe some John Frusciante solo work: Omission, The Past Recedes, etc.

If you've been playing bass for two years you should be able to play more than beginner stuff on guitar, after all the two instruments aren't that different from each other.
