i'm not an expert, but it looks like the entire song is in the key of c, they just threw in an A#9 chord in chorus, I'm guessing as some chromatic movement from the A in the Dm chord, just my guess. Also, the A#9 chord contains a C which transitions nicely to the C chord.

Am F G
I hear the ticking of the clock
G Am F G E
I'm lying here, the room's pitch dark
Am F G
I wonder where you are tonight
G Am F G E
No answer on the telephone
F C F C
And the night goes by so very slow
F C F C
Oh I hope that it won't end though
F G C
Alone

CHORUS:
Dm A#9 C G Dm
Til now I always got by on my own
A#9 C G
I never really cared until I met you
Dm A#9 C G
And now it chills me to the bone
F A#9 C
How do I get you alone
F A#9 C
How do I get you alone
