ive been looking into getting a decent nice looking acoustic, around $300 tops, since i have been plaing bass mostly for a while now, and im gonna get into serious chord work (my guitar teacher never taught me more than one class on chords, which is why i quit guitar for a long time, even after getting my ibanez ART300) so ive been playing my moms old classical, and i just feel the need for a good steel string acoustic for songwriting and stuff. what are some decent ones, that look pretty good too? i like the ovation http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ovation-Applause-Series-AE148-Super-Shallow-Cutaway-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-516977-i1392764.gc but idk if its any good. im looking for an acoustic-electric btw. thanks

I would definitely go with an Ovation. I haven't had any experience with the lower end Ovations like that Applause though, but I would recommend going with a used Ovation Celebrity. I found mine on Ebay for $320US and free shipping. The guitar is phenomenal though. It plays as well as an electric with low action and easy higher fret access, also the sound of and Ovation is amazing.

I can't really think of any guitars in your price range that are of the same quality. But you could always try an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric. I played 2 at a store that were in the price range and they sounded great too, but they were more of a traditional acoustic style.
