A lot of us, as heavy metal fans, look for technical ability in guitar solos and riffs in general.
Not my taste, but a lot of us believe that greatness comes from technical ability,
Which explains why a lot of you despise Kurt Cobain for being overrated as a guitarist, which I personally disagree but that's that.

Who do you admire for technical ability?
Or who do you think is great at technical playing?

I pick Jeff Beck without a doubt, but I'm expecting a lot of John Petrucci, and two other Italian American soloists from Long Island.

Well actually I admire him for everything, not just his technical ability.
Check out my guitar quartet composition The Lone Wolf and you will be rewarded! With a live wolf!

Trop prompte à déféquer le fruit d'un vit sanieux.

Les Paul, Carlos Santana (more his method than technical ability however)
However, ive always thought technical ability is great, but nothing without creative ability.
But all that have been mentioned so far are pretty darn good.

Well it's very illogical to compare them because metal and jazz are like in the different league so it's a different form of technical ability.

Look for Wes Montgomery and Jeff Beck.

Not necessarily, though Jazz does take a great deal of technicality...

There are so many technically talented guitarists out there, hard to choose just one or two...

I really like how much of the worlds' musical talent resides in metal (the others being jazz, classical, and instrumental), goes to show how much recognition metal should be getting, but isn't...
