Okay, so I'm fairly confused about guitar woods. I know that different types of wood create different tone... I can understand this on an acoustic, but I just don't see how it could affect an electric.

I mean... electrics have pickups. Because of this, I just don't see how the type of wood can affect the sound, as it only goes through the pickups and into the amp.

I ask this because I'm soon revamping my guitar - whose body is plywood - and, well, I want it to be an amazing guitar, and was just wondering if the plywood would hold me back... but I just don't see how wood can affect sound on an electric.

Sorry if I come across as an idiot

the pickups only pickup the vibrations of the string, and the wood affects how the string vibrates/sustains etc.
