I must say most of those clips just sounded like a clean amp. I agree about how it sounds like it has no gain. It also doesn't sound great - my opinion.
#163
^agreed.

It def sounded better in person.

Is this any better? I got a volume box now in the loop so I can manage the gain better. Remember, I'm just a noob hobbyist and don't have the skillz yet.

^I got a volume box in effects loop and made a big difference.

I use my Bad Monkey as clean boost every now and then.

I finally got my EQ pedal dialed in just right and it's sweet.

Dude - your amp is so sick looking. You should do a NAD thread when you get some clips so more people will see this beauty.

hahah funny thing actually.... I put my Splawn on eBay just to feel around and see if someone will buy it, because there's another amp that I've been dying to try and someone is selling it, and I have a feeling it will go soon! I really like trying out different amps, and if this one that I'm gonna get doesn't work out, I'll get another Nitro

I really do love this amp... sounds amazing!

yuuup you heard right. I kind of used the Nitro as a segway for another amp. I was saving funds for either a Nitro or Peters Chimera, and the Nitro came up first. I realllly wanted to try a Peters Chimera though, so I put it on on the feeBay and I'll see if it sells. If it does, cool, if it doesn't, I still don't mind because I like this amp a lot. I basically have nothing to lose.

And if I don't happen to like the Chimera, I'll get another Nitro

I have about 10 minutes of stuff i recorded with the quickrod. It's gonna bet a while before I get the sound adjusted to sound right.

I record a good bit off center of the cone so it sounds more boxy than most guys prefer. It is a single track, bunch of short segments to try to give you a wider variety of stuff it can do. Maxon OD9 was used for a good deal of it. The volume was high when I first started recording. Where I'm using a different recording interface I'm having a great deal of trouble trying to get it to sound right.

Clips will be uploaded by 10:00 tonight!

Which would be better for a more vintage-y Plexi tone, the Quickrod or the Super Stock? I mean, if the Quickrod does vintage Marshall tones just as well as the Super Stock, I'll go with the Quickrod but...

What do you mean off-center? I have my mike pointed parallel with cab with mic end right at edge of cone on left speaker at about 10 o'clock. Any mic placement tips are welcome.

Thanks for taking time to do one more clip before she's traded for teh schecter.

Sorry for the delay, the first file was deleted when audacity decided to fail on me.

The Presonus Audiobox usb thing isn't cutting it for me. I can't get a good solid sound on it. Not to mention I like all the goodies the Line 6 Toneport offers as far as compressors and such.

Here are some pics!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to do that. Give us some more heavies when/if you can. Are you still trading for that Schecter? I copied your pics too to add to page 1 later if that is OK.

So I finally had a chance to play around with my Nitro and my FD2 MOSFET, AND I LOVE IT. I don't know if I want to sell it anymore!!!

I shot a quick video, its uploading right now. It is a clip at verrrry low volume, you can even hear my picking in the video. But the camera was clipping extremely hard from the low end, and you can get the general feel of it. It sounds much more clear and less muddy in person, stupid camera

and it's up!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_f839DR2Lk

Very quick video of my Nitro boosted with a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET. Camera was clipping extremely hard from the bass, even though the amp was barely on! You can even hear my picking.

The first few seconds are without the FD2 on, then you can see me turn it on.

Gain initially started at 12:00, but I moved it to 2:00. The Nitro is on OD2. OD level on the FD2 MOSFET was about 1:00, and volume all the way, tone about 1:00. The Boost channel was NOT engaged.

Mostly wanted to show how it can get aggressive riffing tones on the bridge pickup to a smooth clear lead tone with the neck pickup.

It sounds much more clear and less muddy in person

Playing through a Ibanez PGM100 with PAF Pro's in the neck and bridge.

Please forgive my playing, I was kinda just playing whatever.

Welll.... my Nitro sold on eBay for $1600 which is an awesome price if you ask me.

I'm shipping it out tomorrow... and I'm honestly feeling pretty sad :'(

I realllly liked this amp, my favorite one so far, but hopefully my next amp will serve me better. I see another Nitro in my future some day...

I never had time to make a proper video review either, I've been so busy these past two weeks! But hopefully that small demo will show a little what it sounded like.

How well does the PRO STOCK do that vintage, brittish sound? I'm talking plexi-type. I'm chosing between a Splawn Pro Stock, and a bit cheaper Marshall Vintage Modern right. Leaning towards the Marshall, but I am still intressted in the Splawn since it it hand build. Anyone has experience of both?

Good lord man!!! Dont do it!

Splawn will kill it. People give the VMs a slight hard time (sometimes me too), yet they are not bad - but put these two side-by-side. Wow. A most definitive difference.

Save, pawn, sell your mother (she won't like it anyway)!!!
#192
Agreed.

You may also want to check out the Splawn Competition. Unless you are gigging I doubt you will need 100 watts. I have mine set on 50 and it is hella loud. If you don't care about a clean channel that is the one I'd get and you could then half power down to 25.

#193
Vintage Modern has it's own kind of tone. I like KT66 based amps, they just have this fat, creamy, thick, warm tone that has the round low end and singing high end of a 5881 but the smooth break up of an EL34.
#194
^The Pro Mod comes with KT88's if that helps. None with KT66's. I think all but the Quick Rod and the Super Stock have a KT88 option.

oh and here is a clip I just found on the 'tube'.

Hey guys, I don't visit this forum that often anymore (been over a year since I last visited), but I've had my Quick Rod for over a year now, and I absolutely LOVE it.

Here's a video I recorded last October with it. The camcorder had a little trouble fully capturing the sound, but it'll suffice.
