I know there have been many threads on this topic before, but not many offer clear opinions or answers.

If you were FORCED choose which company produces the best mods, Keely or AnalogMan, what would you choose?

Please don't say, "neither".

Just wanted to let you know that 80% of the answers will be ''neither''
1. You're surfing the internet.
2. You're browsing through the UG forums.
3. You're reading now.
5. You didn't notice that there was no #4.
6. You just checked it.
7. Now you're having a lil smile.

By mods do you mean those old guys who used to ride mopeds with 80,000 lights on 'em and used to spend every night getting beaten up by rockers? I didn't know THEY were made by two companies, I thought it was just one.
Gear;
- B.C. Rich Warbeast Bloodbound
- B.C. Rich NT Zombie 5-String Bass
- BOSS GT-10 Multi Effects TANK!
...In other words, I'm taking a giant dump on fender owners who use pods.

Horses for courses.
Both do great mods but it's all down to the sound each individual wants.

I'm still wanting to get hold of Monte Allum's mod for my CS-3; check his site out too.

That's funny, the mods won the second Battle of Hastings.

But yeah, depends.

Not helpful AT ALL!

Does anyone have the balls to choose?

Think for yourself. It's personal preference.

The Keely ones are better. They just have a lot more going for them. Don't you agree?

I think they both rip you off. Charge me fifty bucks for 1 dollar worth of parts and 15 mins of labor?! Yeah right!
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

Thanks for a lot for nothing guys!

I guess the general opinion on this board is that mods are not worth the money.

<sarcasm>

Yeah, and there's maybe $200-300 worth of stuff in the average 15 watt tube amp, but people apparently buy the small Mojave amp that lists for $2000 for just the head. Maybe I should just download the schematics for that Plexi I've always wanted and build it myself. Or for a better comparison since we're talking about modding pedals, why do people pay $400 for a Klon when you could easily just buy the $50 or so worth of parts to build it yourself?

</sarcasm>

TS, in terms of the quality, I can't tell you whether Keeley or Analogman is better overall. I can't even tell you who is better for a specific pedal. That's a tone judgment only you can make. Look at demos online of their pedals and see if you like what you hear.

In terms of the value for these mods, if you know how to work a soldering iron, it's far more affordable to buy the appropriate parts and mod the pedal yourself using a schematic you can likely find online using your favorite search engine. Even if you have to rent the tools, it's still a better money price, and it's probably a better use of your time since you won't have to spend a week or two for the pedal to get back to you.

I don't know how you can compare an amp and a pedal, the average person can mod a pedal in no more than an hour (their first time). Building an amp is a whole other ballpark. I've never heard of klon and wouldn't consider buying a pedal that expensive.

I understand your argument. Keep in mind I'm planning on building my own load box here! My point is that value is different for each person. If he doesn't want to spend the time modifying his pedal, maybe $50 to get it done by somebody else is worth it. They definitely have expertise at what they do. And as for building your own amps, aren't Ceriatone and Metropoulous amplifiers all kits that you build yourself? There's definitely a market out there for do-it-yourself stuff that isn't so simple.

P.S. How the heck have you never heard of the Klon Centaur?! I thought that pedal was all the rage here...

They offer kits, but they also can also build them for you. I'm not saying no one builds amps their selves, its infinitely more complicated is all.

I might've heard of the company, but that's about it.
