Just wondering what you guys think is the best guitar riff (not solo) from any metalcore band.

I probably have to go with Empty Inside by All That Remains since I don't listen to metalcore much because, well, the vocals suck. But they do have some sick guitar riffs.

I would very much hesitate to call Protest a metalcore band. They're more progressive or mathcore.

As for my favourite metalcore riff...I can't tell, I like a bunch of them.
Oh no he just divided by zero again...*gets sucked into vortex*

Someone please tell me what exactly comprises a metalcore band?

And why isn't just calling band that plays heavy, fast music metal good enough anymore?
Do you feel warm within your cage?

And have you figured out yet -

Because it's not.

Just that simple.

Alright - so how about answering the other question then.

Possibly with a more helpful answer than this one? I'm not being fecetious - I really want to know.

Bands that have a lot of hardcore, punk, and metal elements in it.

Usually with screaming or "cookie cutter" vocals, lots of chuggachugga, usually have breakdowns but kind of sudden just "mosh" type of breakdowns, meaning it goes from song to chugging on power chords usually just a bunch of open 0 stuff.

Most of the type some pretty catchy type of chorus, but not always.

That's how I describe it.

Nothing wrong with metalcore, I love a lot of metalcore bands, it's just a label for a genre.

Unbroken- Zero Hour

Metalcore is a sub-genre of hardcore punk that incorporates some metal influence in their music (not vice-versa); thus it has a heavier sound but is still distinctly a hardcore band. Metalcore doesn't necessarily have to have breakdowns, chugging riffs, recycled vocals, etc. I recommend looking into mid-90's Victory records bands (Earth Crisis, Integrity, Dead Guy) if you're genuinely curious. It's usually pretty easy to find on Soulseek and such.
