okay that run is of course from the over played and worn out Sweet Child O' Mine. its not something i should worry about, but I'm beginning to freak out. What the heck? slash is using E harmonic minor there, and that seems so strange because, lets be honest, most of the time in a rock solo, its just predictable pentatonic licks. How did he come up with it! it works so well, surely it wasn't improv? and the other thing bothering me with it, is that the generally accepted possition to play that in? I really want to find out exactly what slash does, because i'm rather sloppy at it, and if im going to practice it, i want to do it the original way if possible. the fingering seems so odd for a player like slash or any rock player in general. Please help me out!

^ Doesn't look difficult or problematic, with practice.

I don't get the significance. He used a different scale...uh...wow?

i just though it was kinda weird, i could never have come up with something like that on the spot, the phrasing of it and the possition is weird

Maybe because Slash is a little better than your average rock guitarist. Plus he was stoned out of his nuts back in the late 80s so he probably didn't think too much about exactly what scale, fingering etc he was using specifically.

well im sure that wasnt the first thing he played when writing the song. he probably tried many different licks over many different scales.

as for position, it looks like youre going to be switching between seventh and tenth position, just gotta know when to move to hit the higher notes and when to stretch.

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.
