Or does itunes have code written into it that whenever it runs on vista it must use 90% of the RAM and it must impact on every other program open.
Anyone else notice this?

I only have 2 GB and it uses like 1.8 of it

4 Gb = $$

Edit: I just looked it up, it only has 2 GB but I just run my iPod through the speakers anyway so I never use iTunes.

I am seriously considering going to XP on my vista PC. With only 2GB RAM and a 1.8 GHZ Celeron processor i think i should. Windows 7 will be to expensive when it comes out and i can get XP Pro pretty cheap. I mainly chose vista because of better visual effects and now i am finding it isnt much different.

mess with your settings so that programs could only use a certain amount.

but then itunes is way laggy, which disrupts playback settings.

the problem isn't limited to vista, it's only exacerbated because vista already uses so much RAM, there's barely enough left for any other kind of system processes.

im using XP pro, and at any given time itunes is using about 30% of the RAM.

sacrifices you have to make, eh?

Most CPU's that run Vista are multi core. And so, it wont struggle to delegate listening to music and doing other stuff. Maybe ur comp just isnt up to it?

...Okay...

iTunes is from Apple...yes?
Now that this is established maybe you should realize that Windows is NOT it's normal running environment, therefore the reason it is sucking up your ram is because it has to emulate and Apple environment to run iTunes correctly...Thank you....

So no matter what you do, unless you start running a pos mac, you're going to have to deal with this fact.

Or...

You can get a different media player like Foobar2000. It's much better than iTunes plus it's totally customizable.

We're trying to help to guy, not turn his computer into a sloppy pile of diarrhea....

Clean up your hard drive, run checkdisk and defrag it. If its still acting up your computer bit off more than It could chew.

This alone solves most performance problems if you've never done it or haven't in a long time. User freedoms_stain has a blog about some free defraggers and such that work better than the built in ones, check it out: http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/freedoms_stain/blog/56351/

Oh, and + a million to whoever said get Winamp. Mem usage usually hovers around 10-15% for me, and I only have 1.5 gigs of RAM.

Dude, just get Foobar2000.

It's free and preferred over iTunes.
