JCM800 combo's go for quite cheap on good ol' ebay, I picked mine up for £251.
Sure it's a beat up a bit but it adds lovely and charming character.

That smaller stack looks very intriguing...
Unless it's just a perspective thing, but the face of the chassis looks smaller in comparison with knob distance.

More like over 20 000$.

Trainwrecks in good condition cost over 30 000$.

TS, a SJ or JCM800 would be right up your alley for Slashy tones.

But is that all you play? What other sound would like to get out of your amp?

Why though? The only people who say they don't like Marshall's can't give any reason why.
Gear;
- B.C. Rich Warbeast Bloodbound

- BOSS GT-10 Multi Effects TANK!

I have a split channel JCM800. It's pretty good, I think it needs new valves and a good place to open the taps on it other than my bedroom.

I have to stand outside my room so I don't lose my hearing, so bear that in mind when looking at valve amps.

Am I the only person who thinks that the JCM800 is a slightly overrated amp, and that Slash has very boring tone?

No. That's why I asked TS if he wanted to get any other sounds out of his amp.
But I must admit, Joe Bonamassa does wonders with his SJ ( though combined with a plexi, two rock and dumble clone)

OK well I owned one and it sucked balls. Horrible gain, noisy pots, generally it was just crap packaged up for noobs to buy. And I was the noob of the moment at the time. Any other questions? To someone that owned one and was stuck playing it for years?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Bad tone, poor reliability, overpriced. This mainly refers to the higher wattage versions. The practice amps are fine because they're practice amps, and all practice amps sound like crap generally.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

I hope that was not a serious suggestion.

So true. My next amp build will be an 18 watt tmb. Just gotta find the time to source parts and build the damn thing... ah... college rears its ugly head again...

I agree but don't have the cash and would rather have a splawn at the moment.

the only reason I wouldn't say get an 18w is it doesn't have any head room really although loud probably not good enough for bigger gigs

Oh trust me, they are loud enough for bigger gigs. The Marshall 1974x I tried was as loud as a Rocker 30 and sounded much better.
#39
buy a JCM series. If you're really fixed on the slash sound, i'm pretty sure marshall did a lash signature head awhile back, not sure if they are easy to find though, i'm not the biggest fan of marshalls (except bluesbreakers, they ****ing rule)

His tone really isn't "his" tone. His style certainly is but how many artists have used cranked plexi's? I mean, that's gotta be one of the most gigged amps through the ages. Then throw a Les Paul's tone on top of that, yea, great tone but not original or unique in any way, shape or form.
