my amps in the shop so i'm fiddling with my digitech rp80 processor and I'm trying to make my own effects. Can anyone explain want compression does in general? In the little guide that came with the processor it says it adds sustain but when I crank it up the sound gets "fuzzy" or "breathy". I don't know how to exactly describe it.
Amps sound good when the volume is cranked. Compression takes that signal and makes it smaller and quieter but it still sounds just about as good as the loud signal.
Compression boosts the quiet parts of your signal and cuts the loud parts. It kind of 'squeezes' the signal strength.
